Student Life

Student life in the Religion Department is focused in and around our common spaces in the Religion Department on 80 Claremont Ave, housed in Union Theological Seminary's main building just off the edge of Columbia's Morningside campus. We gather in the department in three main study spaces - the computer room, the downstairs lounge (aka "The Dungeon"), and the Teaching Fellows lounge in the basement. Together, we use these spaces to study, write, and relax as we engage in life in the department, at Columbia, and in New York City.

Students in the department are represented by the Religion Graduate Student Association (RGSA). The RGSA is a five-person committee of Religion MA and PhD students that provides a common space for dialogue and collaboration and plans student-centric department events, including social outings, research workshops, professional development opportunities, participation in Columbia' graduate student government, and an annual graduate student conference. You can access more information about programming and student life at their website.
