Biography
Ruifeng Chen is the Sheng Yen Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the Center for Buddhism and East Asian Religions and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion at Columbia University. He has a PhD in Religious Studies from McMaster University. His research interests mainly lie in medieval Chinese Buddhist manuscripts and colophons, particularly in how they reveal the lived religious experience of historical individuals. His dissertation investigated the theoretical questions about how religious practices, in particular practices related to sacred texts, are connected to the content of texts. At Columbia, Ruifeng is expanding his research on the scripture-copying practices of a particular group of patrons, medieval Chinese Buddhist nuns.
